Response to lead blogger "Theo"
In Theo's post, I liked how he tied in each kind of humor consisting of the superiority, relief, and incongruity theory. The show “The Eric Andre Show” is definitely filled with comedy and in the show, you never know what's coming next. The way Theo tied in the superiority theory helped me to better understand the shows dynamic. I was able to see why this show is so funny because the guests on the show truly don't know what's going on. Like Theo said, “The guests are nearly always either pissed off or confused, but, as audience members, we can laugh at their misfortune”. I definitely found myself laughing at the fact that the guests on the show were so confused and this is why the superiority theory can relate. I wasn't necessarily laughing because what was happening to the guests was bad. However, it was just so ridiculous that I couldn't help but feel “superior” to them in some way since I had an understanding of the shows absurdity.
I also thought the way that Theo tied the relief theory into the show was created. I agree with him that it for once is nice to find a show that is different from other talk shows. So many talk shows today all follow the same outline and mesh together. This show definitely stands out and I did find myself feeling relieved at something so new and different. I liked that this show was able to bring in so many different aspects of humor. It gave a clear example of the theories on humor and allowed me to better understand why so many other people would also find this show humorous.

I love that you brought up the confusion of the audience! While they can clearly be confused because of his antics, I think the audience (which I'm assuming is mostly millenial age) ultimately isn't bothered to comprehend his absurdities. Specifically, they laugh at the pointless craziness, whereas an older audience would traditionally try to fully understand the meaning of a joke that simply isn't there in "The Eric Andre Show".
